RNC CHAIRWOMAN RONNA MCDANIEL SAYS SHE WOULD LIKE TO SEE EXCEPTIONS FOR RAPE, INCEST IN ALABAMA ABORTION LAW
Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said on CNN Friday that she would like to see exceptions for rape and incest included in the new Alabama abortion law.
“Personally, I would have the exceptions,” she said in regard to rape in incest. “That’s my personal belief. But we are a party that is a broad tent. … There [are] Republicans on varying degrees of this issue. It’s a very personal issue, [but] we are the party of life.”
“I look at Alabama — it’s a predominantly pro-life state, and they’re saying, ‘We want to let the Supreme Court decide, how far can states go to govern on this issue,’” McDaniel said. “Alabama represents Alabama.”

The comments follow House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy criticizing Alabama’s new abortion law Thursday, saying it goes “further” than he believes after Republican Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed the abortion bill Wednesday, which is a near-total ban on abortions that makes no exceptions for victims of rape or incest and would prosecute doctors who perform abortions.

The law is the most restrictive abortion law in the U.S. and is set to go into effect in six months.
