Critics Doubt Ivanka’s Role at CES
Ivanka has been invited to speak at CES, an annual trade show in Las Vegas presenting new and innovative consumer technologies. Organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), Ivanka will be among world business leaders while delivering her keynote speech.
So what’s the problem? The keynote is a sought-after opportunity by many. Critics have come out saying that Ivanka, one of the two women selected to give a keynote this year, doesn’t deserve the spot over many leading women within the technology sector. Some are even calling to boycott the event entirely.

Gary Shapiro, CEO of CTA, has spoken out in defense of Ivanka and his decision to choose the first daughter. “There’s a lot of focus on jobs of the future, and certainly the keynote that I’ll be doing with Ivanka Trump will be focusing on… how the industry is working with the government on this very important issue,” Shapiro told BBC.
The critics’ argument may be valid, but the direction is misled. Ivanka will bring valuable insights to CES, especially in regards to her position as senior advisor; however, if more women in tech are to be featured as keynote speakers, action needs to be directed specifically towards Shapiro and his company.
CES will take place starting tomorrow, January 7, and will continue through Friday. Stay tuned as we keep you up to date on Ivanka’s keynote – and what she wears to it!
