Democrat who endorsed Trump changes his mind about resigning

Vernon Jones, a Democratic state representative in Georgia who attracted immense ire from his party after endorsing President Donald Trump, said he will remain in office.
Jones had announced on Wednesday that he would be resigning from his post within the Georgia House of Representatives, citing attacks and harassment from the Democratic Party for supporting Trump’s re-election. However, the renegade Democrat later said that, after an avalanche of public support, he has changed his mind and will not resign.
“Little did I know that I would receive such [a] barrage of attacks and name-calling by the far left in the Democratic Party,” Jones said in a Twitter video posted on Thursday about his decision to support Trump.
These attacks at first prompted him to vacate office, but he said something soon changed.
“When I started receiving the overwhelming amount of support and outcry from the people that I represent in House District 91 in DeKalb and Rockdale counties, my fellow Georgians, and fellow Americans from across this country in every walk of life, every age, every color, every party — that was emotional, and that was motivational,” Jones continued.
He added: “And you know what, America? I thought about it, and I talked to my family, and I talked to my supporters. Because what you did for me, I am going to remain on the battlefield, I am going to complete my term, I’m going to continue to put my country before my party.”
The state representative added that he will do “everything I can” to get Trump re-elected in November.
Jones launched onto the national scene when he officially endorsed Trump on April 14, pointing to the president’s handling of the economy, support for historically black colleges and his criminal justice reform initiatives. These issues, he said, drew him to support Trump’s campaign.
However, his decision was met with resounding condemnation from his colleagues.
Georgia Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikema Williams called Jones an “embarrassment” to the party, and a group launched by failed gubernatorial candidate and romance novelist Stacey Abrams said it would work to unseat him from office. The establishment has since thrown its support behind Rhonda Taylor, Jones’s Democratic primary rival.
Jones represents the 91st House District in the Georgia House of Representatives — a majority-minority district in the suburbs south of Atlanta that is overwhelmingly Democratic. Before entering the Georgia General Assembly, Jones served as the CEO of DeKalb County, and served in the state House from 1993 to 2001.

God bless the MAN. He stood for his principles and withstood the fierce anger of the ‘enslavement’ party! Good for him, and for all of us!
— and I bet the Republican governor who would have appointed his successor had nothing to do with it.
Thank you Rep Jones. I live in Alaska and can’t vote for you but, am so proud of you and the courage you display. I’m especially glad you are strong enough to cross party lines and hold your head high. ?????
Congratulations on your decision to remain in office. Our country needs people like you in our Government who look at the facts and make their own decision on who and what is good for America. God bless you.
Good decision. Stay there and do what you think is right. Let’s try to get more people in office that want to do the right thing for the people they represent. Opponents always want to shame/intimidate those they don’t agree with. Stand your ground, if you are doing the right thing, you will prevail. Voters are not stupid.
AMERICANS WE HAVE TO TAKE BACK OUR AMERICA FROM THE EVIL CRIMINAL ACTS OF DEMOCRATS………………………..TO SOLVE AMERICAS PROBLEMS MAKE THIS CHOICE WE THE PEOPLE’ HAVE THE POWER OF OUR VOICES AND OUR VOTES, TO VOTE OUT THE ENTIRE LYING,CORRUPT, TREASONOUS DEMOCRAT PARTY COME NOV 2020, VOTE TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN AND TO END ALL CORRUPTIONS IN WASHINGTON GOVERNMENT
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20).
I am so proud of Vernon Jones. He made the right choice.
Vernon Jones is NOT an embarrassment to THE PEOPLE. He is a VERY SMART MAN that obviously sees the HATE, JEALOUSY AND EXTREME VIEWS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. He sees they care about ONLY THEMSELVES AND THEIR OWN PROJECTS/AGENDAS! They forget that they work for the AMERICAN PEOPLE!! VERNON JONES will work for the people and back a GREAT PRESIDENT! Thank you for being so BRAVE to stand up Mr. Jones! I applaud you!!
Thank You ❤ We are Trump Strong….We will get thru this
A true American….God Bless you…..
I spent 30 years (active duty and Reserve) so we could remain free as Americans. As a Fire Fighter, I did my best to protect ‘neighbors that I didn’t know’. I am appalled that we have become “1984” in certain segments of this great country
It is the ideals enshrined in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence that I strive for. We fallible humans, but we can always strive for the ideal.
I am truly pleased Vernon Jones reconsidered and continues to strive for the best he knows is there.
I support your decision to remain in office. I am sure it was a tough decision to stay. This is the lefts playbook say enough things so those that oppose them will give up.
This country needs more people like yourself who will stand up for what is the right regardless of party affiliation
Good for him. Isn’t it nice when a politician puts their country ahead of their Party?
Your constituents are lucky to have an intelligent and honest
person to represent them.
If you believe you can pull your Party from the brink of destr4uction,
stay with it; if not, switch Parties or go independent.
Jones said, “I’m going to continue to put my country before my party.” This is the attitude all politicians should have. Too bad it is rare in Democrats.
No different than having a rino like McCain in the GOP.
so glad you changed you mine
