Carly Fiorina says she won’t vote for Trump
Former Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina made headlines on Thursday by saying that she’ll likely vote for presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden in November’s general election over President Donald Trump.
“I am encouraged that Joe Biden is a person of humility and empathy and character,” Fiorina said. “I think he’s demonstrated that through his life.”
Fiorina is the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard. She unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate in California in 2010. She went on to run for president in 2016. Fiorina and Trump often clashed on the campaign trail.
Trump faced pushback when he criticized Fiorina’s appearance in a 2015 Rolling Stone interview.
“Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president,” Trump said.
The former businesswoman dropped out of the primary in February of 2016 and endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) who said he would name Fiorina his running mate if he won the GOP nomination.
Despite her disagreements with Trump in the primaries, she ended up voting for him in 2016. On Thursday she was asked directly if she will vote for Biden in November.
“I’ve been very clear that I can’t support Donald Trump. And, you know, elections are binary choices … if faced with a binary choice on a ballot, yes.”
President Trump responded to the news on Twitter saying he wasn’t bothered by Fiorina’s lack of support.
“Failed presidential candidate (thank you President Trump!), Carly Fiorina, said she will be voting for Corrupt Joe Biden. She lost so badly to me, twice in one campaign, that she should be voting for Joe. No complaints,” Trump tweeted.
Diamond and Silk, strong African American supporters of Trump, took to Twitter as well to blast Fiorina for supporting Biden.
“It’s saddening to see people like Carly Fiorina support a person like Jim Crow Joe, who called black people predators, pushed for a crime bill that decimated black families, and stood hand in hand with a former KKK member. Thank you, Carly Fiorina, for showing your true colors,” the pair tweeted.
Cruz, who has become a strong supporter of the president, didn’t comment on the announcement. Fiorina says she hasn’t spoken to Cruz in years and claims that Republicans supporting Trump are putting politics over principle.
