California Democrats demand removing John Wayne’s name from airport

The Democratic Party of Orange County, California, demanded removing actor John Wayne’s name from its airport due to past “racist and bigoted” remarks Wayne made, it announced Friday.
The party created a resolution to remove Wayne’s name and likeness based on Wayne’s “white supremacist, anti-LGBT, and anti-Indigenous views” Wayne expressed in a 1971 interview, according to the document.
The move came in solidarity with widespread calls to remove “white supremacist symbols” and recognize their impact on the black community and “other oppressed groups,” the resolution stated.
“The Democratic Party of Orange County condemns John Wayne’s racist and bigoted statements, and calls for John Waynes’ [sic] name and likeness to be removed from the Orange County airport, and calls on the OC Board of Supervisors to restore its original name: Orange County Airport,” the resolution added.
Since George Floyd’s death on May 25 in Minneapolis police custody, protesters have taken to pulling down and defacing statues and monuments across the United States to protest police brutality and racial inequality.
Wayne is famously known for his role in films like “The Cowboys” and “True Grit” and died in 1979.
The Democratic Party of Orange County did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

John Wayne’s comments were made in the past and I personally am living in the now. What I see in some people no matter what color is not kindness, love, compassion. What can be done about those things? When will people realize what makes us live as one people is not what we look like but what is in our hearts. Maybe we should have a new slogan “ Love One Another, It Matters”

Removing his name is ludicrous. The democrats have gone bananas. They should research the history of the Democratic Party. Facts: The Democratic Party is the party that was for slavery, The Democratic Party is the party of the KKK (Senator Byrd for example), The Democratic Party is the party of Jim Crow, etc…. What portraits did goofy Pelosi remove from Congress? Three of the portraits were of democratic speakers of the house. Maybe the democrats should entertain the proposition of changing their name because of its racist past. I think the Socialist Party fits them and their far left views to a ‘T’.

Byrd led the 83-day Democrat filibuster against the 1964 Civil Rights Act and spoke non-stop for its defeat for 14 hours on the Senate floor. Byrd also was an Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan, for which he recruited some 150 fresh Klansmen in the 1940s. Why have Democrats not cleansed the Capitol of this former Klansman’s image, and urged West Virginians to do likewise? Or is it because Byrd was a Democrat?

If the Democrats want to purge some names from public buildings, they should remove all names from public buildings, street names and rename cities, counties/parishes and states named after people. This has gotten ridiculous. We cannot erase or re-write history, but we can do better at putting it in perspective to the norms of the time. Politicians who are so short-sighted that they want to try to erase history and risk repeating the mistakes of the past need to be removed from power.

Good. Take his name down. Wayne was no hero; in fact, he was the worst kind of draft-dodger. After Pearl Harbor, other Hollywood stars like Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable volunteered to serve, but Wayne’s studio head, Herbert Yates, got him a deferment. In 1944 the Selective Service revoked his deferments and classified him medically 1A – eligible for military service. Yates appealed and got him another deferment until the war’s end. While others served and put their lives in danger, Wayne’s biggest risk was too much suntan on the beaches of Malibu etc. He made 13 movies during the war, depicting himself as a tough guy and combat hero while making millions of bucks.

Quit trying to white wash history. Accept the realities of the world you live in. We have abolished slavery but it continues to be dwelled on by the descendants of slaves instead of moving past it. White folks have bent over backwards trying to placate the black community and let them know they’re past it. One way they showed that was by electing a BLACK MAN as President twice. You see as many white people at BLM protests as black people. John Wayne was a symbol of a true American during his time. Let him remain so.
