Trump campaign postpones Arizona and Florida events
The Trump campaign announced on Saturday that Vice President Mike Pence’s campaign stops in Arizona and Florida would be postponed due to coronavirus spikes in those states.
The vice president will still travel to those states to hold meetings with governors and local officials, but the stops will no longer include campaign events.
Pence was set to appear in Florida at an event organized by the pro-Trump group America First Policies, billed as the “Great American Comeback Tour.” The White House confirmed that Pence will still meet with Gov. Ron DeSantis and his health officials.
Florida continues to break its record for new daily cases of COVID-19 according to the Florida Department of Health. On Saturday, nearly 10,000 new cases were reported.
The Democratic National Committee used the campaign postponements to attack the Trump administration.
“Coronavirus cases in Florida and Arizona are spiking thanks to Trump’s ineffective response to this crisis and the fact they were trying to hold unsafe events in these states at all is just another demonstration of their incompetence and bad judgment,” said DNC spokesman David Bergstein. “The truth is that the spike in these states is an indictment of Trump’s botched handling of this pandemic, and it’s clear Pence can’t defend their record.”
Vice President Pence has defended the Trump campaign’s decision to hold campaign events amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“The freedom of speech, the right to peaceably assemble is enshrined in the Constitution in the United States, and we have an election coming up this fall,” Pence said.
Trump has recently visited and held events in Oklahoma and Arizona, where coronavirus cases are also on the rise. In Tulsa, six Trump campaign staffers tested positive for the virus. Individuals that attended the events in Arizona and Oklahoma were required to agree that they would not sue the campaign if they contracted COVID-19.
On Friday, the U.S. reported nearly 46,000 new cases setting a record for cases in a single day.
The single-day increase included more than 8,000 new cases in Florida and thousands more in Texas, Arizona and California.

The Republican National Convention needs to be held with all the CDC guidelines in place . Trump needs to follow all guidelines & be an example instead of a know it all. His supporters are very upset with him & it will cost him some votes ???
The country cannot be closed up forever–There will be adjustments and re-adjustments trying to balance opening and safety. Some will get the virus, most won’t and of those that do most will be cured. Opening the economy is essential to the survival of society
