Trump smashes another job creation record as Democrats obstruct
The U.S. economy posted another big economic record, creating 4.8 million jobs last month, the highest ever, easily blowing past economists’ forecasts of 2.9 million jobs for the month. The unemployment numbers came down further to 11.1 percent, also much lower than expected. However, the numbers show roadblocks remain, which could prevent a full recovery for the economy, in the form of Democrats and progressives.
“Nonfarm payrolls jumped by 4.8 million in June and the unemployment rate fell to 11.1 [percent] as the U.S. continued its reopening from the coronavirus pandemic, the Labor Department said Thursday,” reports CNBC.
That continues the momentum from last month when the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported 2.7 million jobs created, which at the time was a new one-month record for job creation. The BLS also announced that the jobs number from last month was revised upward by 190,000.
Under Obama, total job creation averaged just 120,000 per month.
The BLS numbers might help highlight why Democrats and progressives are inordinately attacking bars and restaurants in renewed coronavirus lockdown efforts, as the BLS reports huge gains in leisure and hospitality led by restaurants and drinking establishment.
“In June,” says the BLS, “employment in leisure and hospitality increased by 2.1 million, accounting for about two-fifths of the gain in total nonfarm employment. Over the month, employment in food services and drinking places rose by 1.5 million, following a gain of the same magnitude in May.”
Colorado, California, Arizona, Florida and Texas, on the advice of experts, has tried combatting higher COVID numbers by selectively closing down or restricting operation of restaurants and bars.
So, while the media and Democrats focus on coronavirus and protests, the White House has been focusing on getting the economy back to work. So far, it looks like it’s working.
Kayleigh McEnany, President Trump’s star press secretary, wasted no time in congratulating the president for the record.
“JOBS REPORT SMASHES EXPECTATIONS! 4.8 MILLION jobs created in June, beating the 3 million predicted — LARGEST monthly gain on record! The economy beat expectations by 1.7 MILLION jobs — more than the population of Hawaii. Well done President @realDonaldTrump,” tweeted McEnany.
In a press conference the president said that the economy is recovering much faster than expected.
“Today’s announcement proves that our economy is roaring back. It’s coming back extremely strong,” Trump told the press.
“The 4.8 million rise in non-farm payrolls in June provides further confirmation that the initial economic rebound has been far faster than we and most others anticipated,” said Michael Pearce, senior U.S. economist at Capital Economics.
