Black sheriff vows five minutes of ‘pain’ to violent protesters
A Black Florida sheriff warned Black Lives Matter protesters that if they come to his county, they have to obey the Constitution — not riot, or act violently—or else.
“The second you step out from up under the protection of the Constitution, we’ll be waiting on you and give you everything you want: all the publicity, all the pain, all the glamour and glory for all that five minutes will give you,” Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels in a video according to the Associated Press.
He also promised to deputize all county gun-owners if the sheriff’s office faces a protest too big for it to handle. In the video, the sheriff is wearing a white cowboy hat and flanked by 18 deputies in uniform.
Daniels is a Republican who is facing five GOP opponents for the nomination fight to represent Republicans in the general election. Clay County is in northern Florida, west of Jacksonville.
However, his Republican opponents are calling the video a publicity stunt.
The top money-raising challenger, Republican Michelle Cook, who called herself a “Constitutional Conservative” and supporter of 2nd Amendment rights, called Daniels a “reality-show sheriff” and the video a “stunt.”
“What Daniels said yesterday may sound tough and macho,” said Cook, “but, instead it is a call for vigilantism and another signal that he is incapable of leading the Sheriff’s Department and keeping Clay County safe. Instead of dealing with real issues in a meaningful way, he is behaving like a reality show Sheriff and calling attention to himself.”
Stunt or not, social media is taking notice of the sheriff: Daniels got a shout-out from Mark Levin on Twitter.
“Well said, Sheriff!” tweeted Levin.
Conservative Americans are angry about the do-nothing response of governments towards the violent protests that have shaken America for six weeks. Besides President Trump, AG Bill Barr and Sen. Tom Cotton, it appears that politicians on the right are afraid to take on their progressive peers over fears of being called racist.
“We don’t want you to work with Democrats,” Stephen Crowder wrote last week.
“We want you to defeat Democrats. To crush them. To have them run with their tails between their legs.”
“Republicans have to get tougher and fight,” Trump told a cabinet meeting last October. “We have some that are great fighters, but they have to get tougher and fight because the Democrats are trying to hurt the Republican Party for the election.”
Daniels fights, and it’s likely the other GOP candidates are angry they didn’t do the same thing as Daniels did.
As Abraham Lincoln said of Grant, when detractors wanted to get rid of Grant for allegedly drinking: “I can’t spare this man, he fights.”
