CNN suggests prison for Ivanka’s tweet about Goya Foods

Progressives are going crazy after Ivanka Trump tweeted her personal support for the Hispanic food company Goya, calling her Twitter post an “ethics violation.”
Progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) have called for a boycott of Goya foods because the Goya CEO, Robert Unanue, told a White House audience that the country was lucky to have Donald Trump as president.
“Critics like Rep. Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez [sic], D-N.Y., former Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro and a number of celebrities took aim at the company on social media with hashtags like #BoycottGoya and #GOYAWAY,” reports FoxNews. “Many urged people who use Goya products to start buying similar foods and condiments produced by the company’s competitors.”
In response, Ms. Trump posted a photo of herself on Twitter, with a can of Goya black beans captioned: “If it’s Goya, it has to be good. Si es Goya, tiene que ser bueno.”
Democrats and left-leaning news organizations went nuts, claiming that the tweet was an “endorsement” of a product, in violation of the Hatch Act, which prevents conflicts of interest.
CNN even went so far to suggest that Ivanka Trump should be “imprisoned” for violating ethics rules, trotting out Obama’s former ethics chief as confirmation that a terrible crime took place.
“Ms. Trump has had ethics training. She knows better. But she did it anyway because no one in this administration cares about government ethics,” said Walter Shaub, who headed the ethics office after being appointed by Obama in 2013.
But if Ivanka’s action is a conflict of interest under the Hatch Act, wouldn’t AOC’s action, encouraging a boycott of a private company by name, be a conflict of interest as well, as a kind of anti-endorsement?
President Trump seemed to be enjoying the “Trump effect” that has seen Goya’s brand take off due to the publicity caused by the boycott.
“@GoyaFoods is doing GREAT. The Radical Left smear machine backfired, people are buying like crazy,” tweeted the president.
