NYPD video shows anti-police protesters gathering baseball bats before clash
The NYPD released video yesterday that they say shows protesters taking delivery of a shipment of bats before confronting counter-protesters in support of police.
“It’s unclear if the City Hall protesters used the bats in the wild Brooklyn Bridge brawl between opposing protesters,” reports the New York Post. “But at least one was recovered after the dust settled, police sources said.”
The NYPD reported head injuries amongst police yesterday when pro-cop and anti-cop protesters clashed on the Brooklyn Bridge, but those injuries were not attributed to bats.
The video shows three suspects unloading a small number of bats from the trunk of a car in what looks like a staging area for the violent protesters.
The shipment furthers the suspicion that violent protesters and anarchists have infiltrated the protests for George Floyd, a contention that has been touted by police for some time in New York.
Law Enforcement Today (LET), in an editorial, blamed New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and progressive billionaire George Soros for encouraging the violence against police.
“While media have downplayed any kind of formalized organization to these protests, the shadow of George Soros and his minions looms large. And surveillance video from outside New York City Hall seems to confirm that,” writes LET.
“I’ve said many times—the protests, this is a particular moment in history where 400 years of oppression, 400 years of racism is being addressed in a very powerful way,” de Blasio said according to LET, which commented: “Yes, powerful way, like hitting police officers over the head with bats and canes…powerful.”
The pro-police unity protesters were led by pastors, community activists and retired police officers who are alarmed by the growing lawlessness in New York City. The city has seen a wave of shootings that have accompanied protests that also have been too often accompanied by violence.
Mayor de Blasio and other liberal mayors in big cities seem to have turned a blind eye to the violence. In de Blasio’s case, many say that his history of anti-cop behavior has helped lead to a crisis that has made New York City ungovernable, just as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, as it headed for bankruptcy.
“Mayor de Blasio has apparently learned nothing over the past six years about the extremely damaging impact of anti-police rhetoric on both cops and the communities we serve,” Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association of New York President Patrick Lynch said in a statement last year, as de Blasio said he had to talk to his son about how to not get shot by New York cops because his son is partly Black.
Mayor de Blasio is married to Black, radical activist, Chirlane McCray, and have bi-racial children.
