In Biden endorsement, Revolutionary Communists USA identify Trump as fiercest enemy

Despite calling Joe Biden and the Democrats “representatives and instruments of this exploitative, oppressive, and literally murderous system of capitalism-imperialism,” the head of the Revolutionary Communist Party USA (CPUSA), Bob Akavian, endorsed Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden today, saying “Mr. Trump and the Republicans are even worse.”

He urged voters to “deliver a decisive defeat to Trump and the whole fascist regime,” in November.

Akavian has been at the forefront of the radical Democrat movements, including 1960s hippie organizations such as Students for a Democratic Society and the Berkeley Free Speech Movement.

He’s headed up America’s Communist Party since 1979 after he fled from the U.S to France. His flight stemmed from an alleged assault against a police officer, charges that were later dropped.

Akavian says that while he supports removing Trump by other means, that he’s also good with removing Trump through elections, despite heading an organization that avows violent revolution.

“And if, in spite of mass protest demanding the removal of the Trump/Pence regime, this regime remains in power when it is time for voting, then — using all appropriate means to work for the removal of this regime must include voting against Trump,” said Akavian in a statement.

Under Akavian, the CPUSA also endorsed Barack Obama—twice.

O.K., technically, Revolutionary Communist Party USA doesn’t endorse candidates outside of their own party.

“The Communist Party does not endorse candidates from other parties,” says the official website, “but we are deeply involved in mobilizing people to participate in the elections.”

But in absence of running their own candidates– and encouraging people to vote for them– Akavian’s call to mobilize people in support of the Democrat Party is the same thing as an endorsement.

Certainly, the coalitions mentioned by the CPUSA are pretty much a compendium of those groups that currently ally with the Democrats.

“The presidential election is not just about candidates themselves.  It is about choosing what direction the country will go in. So, we work with allies in the union movement, in immigrant rights and civil rights and environment and organizations of women, LGBTQ, youth, and retirees with the goal of stopping extremists like Trump and building enough [power] to win better jobs, education, healthcare, equality and peace,” says the CPUSA.

For sure, the CPUSA has identified Donald Trump as its fiercest enemy, just as the Never Trumper establishment has, and that is largely driving the support of Joe Biden by those groups, versus the love of Joe Biden.

And it’s likely, on that assessment, Trump would agree.
