VP Pence: ‘Chief Justice John Roberts has been a disappointment to conservatives’
On Wednesday, Vice President Mike Pence said in an interview with Christian Broadcast Network’s David Brody that Chief Justice John Roberts has been a “disappointment to conservatives.”
“I think several cases out of the Supreme Court are a reminder of just how important this election is for the future of the Supreme Court,” Pence continued.
Conservatives have been highly critical of Roberts as of late, as he’s sided with liberal justices on monumental Supreme Court cases.
Reports The Hill: “Roberts sided with the court’s four liberal justices in the Louisiana abortion case and the Nevada church case. He also was part of a 5-4 majority that blocked Trump’s attempt to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and he sided with the 6-3 majority in ruling that workers can’t be fired for being gay or transgender.”
Pence said that “pro-life voters” understand that “the destiny of the Supreme Court is on the ballot in 2020.” That in mind, Pence assured Brody that Trump will again release a list of men and women he will consider appointing to the Supreme Court.
“He did that in 2016. He kept his word,” Pence said. “He’s going to do that in the fall of 2020, and in the next four years, he’ll keep his word and appoint more principled conservatives to our courts.”
