AG Barr warns of guerrilla warfare
The U.S. Attorney General calls violent protests a “new form of guerilla warfare” with “fascistic” tactics and says the media is lying to the American people. In an interview with Fox News host, Mark Levin, AG William Barr unloaded on violent protesters sometimes referred to as “Antifa.”
“They are a revolutionary group that is interested in some form of socialism, communism, they are essentially Bolsheviks. Their tactics are fascistic,” said Barr on the weekend broadcast of Life, Liberty, and Levin.
Barr explained that those engaged in violent attacks on police officers, federal buildings and monuments across the nation are part of an insurgency:
“It’s a new form of urban guerrilla warfare. Mao Zedong used to speak about the guerrilla-like fish swimming in the ocean. The guerrilla hides out among the people as a fish in the ocean. They are essentially shielding themselves or shrouding themselves in First Amendment activity. They go into the demonstrations, which are exercising First Amendment activity, and they insinuate themselves in there to shield themselves… They hijack these demonstrations and they provoke violence, and they have various tiers of people from these top provocateurs down through people who are their minions who run the violent missions. It’s a difficult phenomenon to deal with. They are highly organized at these demonstrations.”
The attorney general also expressed frustration at elected Democrats for seeming to encourage the attacks and suggests that the uprising fits their political agenda:
“The left wants power because that is their state of grace, their secular religion. They want to want to run people’s lives… It’s the lust for power.”
Barr expressed outrage over the lack of accurate media coverage saying, “The American People are being told a lie by the media” and disguising it as a different point of view:
“They are projecting a narrative. Everyone has their own narrative and, therefore, the press can justify presenting a story that doesn’t really correspond to objective truth, ‘but it’s our narrative,’” Barr said of what he considers the lack of honest media coverage.
“The violence is happening right out in the street. They see these groups of agitators with their black outfits, with their helmets and their shields which, incidentally, has the hammer and sickle on it most of the time, rushing the police, causing violence, throwing rocks, showing up with the rocks and the frozen bottles. That’s happening, it’s happening in front of people. You don’t see it on any of the national news. You don’t see it on the networks. You don’t see it on the other cable stations. And yet you hear about these peaceful demonstrators. So, it’s a lie,” Barr emphasized.
Last month, American Wire interviewed a reporter for NBC News about the disparate coverage in her reporting versus other accounts of events on the ground in Portland.
That reporter, Alicia Victoria Lozano, told American Wire at the time that she didn’t see much violence: “Of the roughly 2,000 people I understood to be in attendance the other night, maybe a dozen or fewer were involved in vandalism from what I could see,” a narrative commonly reported among mainstream media news outlets and consistent with Barr’s criticism.
