Biden’s controversial remarks to Muslim group stuns former Muslim
Biden advocates for Sharia law in speech to Muslim organization, says a former Muslim, who requests an apology from Biden.
Former Vice President Joe Biden quoted the Muslim prophet Mohammed in a speech to the “Million Muslim Votes Summit” on July 20 and, according to one former Muslim woman, his words amounted to “let’s declare Sharia law.”
“Talk to all your friends and families, to engage colleagues from your mosque and your community centers to get them engaged as well. Hadith from the prophet Muhammad, instructs, ‘Whomever among you sees wrong, let him change it with his hand. If he is not able, then with his tongue. If he is not able, then with his heart,’” Biden told the summit comprised of several Islamic organizations, some of which have been suspected of colluding with violent extremists.
Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who is a former Muslim, said, “I am alarmed” by Biden’s remarks. Ali, now an advocate for women’s rights appeared on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” broadcast to explain what she considers the dangerous meaning behind Biden’s words:
“What he is doing… is enforcing Sharia law.”
Sharia law is the Muslim belief and interpretation of “God’s law” and, according to Mohammed, is to be strictly imposed. According to the conservative group Center for Security Policy, Sharia is “totalitarian in character, incompatible with our Constitution, and a threat to freedom here and around the world.”
Ali said she doesn’t know “who put those words in Biden’s mouth,” indicating her belief that Biden may not have known the literal meaning of the quote.
“There is this concept called ‘commanding right and forbidding wrong’ and I absolutely cannot believe in the year 2020 Joe Biden is commanding right and forbidding wrong, meaning he is enforcing Sharia law,” said Ali, implying that the meaning is that the Islamic moral code should be enforced by anyone who sees something they consider in violation of the code.
“I understand that Joe Biden doesn’t know what he is doing, but he does have a campaign team,” Ali said wondering why no one in the Biden campaign reviewed his scripted remarks.
Ali recommended that “Biden should come out and apologize profusely to the American people, and especially to those American Muslims who have adopted and embraced the foundational principles of America.”
Ali said she believes that the group to which Biden was speaking was comprised of “Muslim Brotherhood, and radical Islamists.” Ali also stated that the group had Biden “endorsing and forcing Sharia vigilantism.”
The Biden Campaign has yet to issue a statement clarifying the presidential candidate’s remarks on the subject.
