4 times when Dems at the DNC showed either unbelievable tone-deafness or rank hypocrisy
The Democratic National Convention went pretty much as conservatives should have expected.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ended up as the presidential and vice-presidential nominees, and the rest of the event was dedicated, not to offering an outline for leading America, but simply to bashing, smearing and denigrating President Donald Trump.
But the Democrats were so blinded by their Trump Derangement Syndrome that they couldn’t see when their program defied common sense and good taste.
Here are four examples of Democrats going tone deaf at their own convention.
First, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke on the opening night and his comments focused on criticizing the Trump administration’s response to COVID-19. At one point he called it “dysfunctional and incompetent.”
Well, Cuomo was responsible for sending sick elderly coronavirus patients back into nursing homes, and we recently learned that the move did not kill 6,300 people as first thought, but roughly 11,000, as Cuomo sought to hide the true number. Meanwhile, New York state’s death rate per million is 1,689, which, if New York was its own country, would be the second-worst rate in the world, behind neighboring New Jersey, and nearly doubles the worst foreign country, Belgium.
Secondly, on the second day of the event, DNC leaders allowed Sen. Elizabeth Warren to speak to the Native American Caucus.
Well, Warren famously asserted Native American heritage during her long career in academia, which returned the favor by prominently promoting her as a minority faculty member. Then in 2018, as she was set to run for president, Warren took a DNA test that revealed she was 1/1,024th Native American, which is actually less than the rate of the typical American. The Cherokee nation demanded that she apologize, which she did, and she has vowed not to make the claim again.
Thirdly, in primetime on Day 2, the DNC organizers tapped former President Bill Clinton to give a speech. In his remarks, Clinton railed about Trump’s performance. “At a time like this,” he said, “the Oval Office should be a command center. Instead, it’s a storm center. There’s only chaos. Just one thing never changes — his determination to deny responsibility and shift the blame. The buck never stops there.”
Well, early in 1998, in the middle of Clinton’s second term, we learned Clinton infamously had sex with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern, in the Oval Office. During a subsequent investigation, Clinton perjured himself and obstructed justice in trying to cover it up. Yet the Lewinsky scandal obscured the fact that Kathleen Willey, a former Clinton backer, said publicly that year that Clinton had groped her on an Oval Office visit.
Finally, on the third night, the DNC gave America former President Barack Obama, who delivered his speech in Philadelphia, from a hall with an image of the Constitution as the backdrop. The wording behind him said, “Writing the Constitution.”
In his comments, Obama said the Constitution “wasn’t a perfect document…. But embedded in this document was a North Star that would guide future generations; a system of representative government — a democracy — through which we could better realize our highest ideals.”
Well, we’ve learned in the last few months that Obama was plugged into the FBI’s spying on members of Team Trump. We know that as President Obama ordered lethal drone strikes on American citizens suspected of being terrorists, thus executing them after denying them constitutionally guaranteed due process. He rewrote federal immigration law with the stroke of a pen with directives that mandated illegal immigrants brought here as children could stay. He ordered bombings of Libya and Syria without congressional authority. Under him, the IRS wrongfully pried into conservative political groups. Then, there was Obamacare’s constitutionally dubious individual mandate, which was spared from the legal dustbin by Chief Justice John Roberts declaring it a “tax.” Obama so repeatedly abused the Constitution that even The Atlantic, a notoriously liberal magazine, declared as Obama left office that “there’s little doubt that he leaves the Constitution weaker than he found it.”
