Trump campaign manager says key to victory is to focus on Biden’s policies
President Donald Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stepien told Politico on Tuesday that the key to victory in November for the president is to focus on Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s record.
Stepien pointed out that the majority of the speakers at the Democratic National Convention largely avoided Biden’s policy positions and instead focused on his character.
“We need to keep talking about Joe Biden’s radical policies,” Stepien said. “You did not hear a lot last week at the Democratic National Convention about Democrats’ policies. You heard a lot about fear tactics and the bad things about America in the Democrats’ eyes. You didn’t hear a lot about their policies.”
Stepien said the reason the Democrats are avoiding their policy positions is because polls prove that they aren’t popular.
“It’s because their policies are bad,” he said. “Their policies poll poorly; their policies test poorly. The Green New Deal, raising taxes by $4 trillion, open borders, redirecting police funding, those poll very poorly. Which is why you heard very little about policies from the Democratic Party last week.”
Stepien said that the Trump campaign plans to start talking more about Biden’s policies and pointing out the radical fringe of his party.
“So, when you talk about one thing that we aim to do, will do, continue to do, it’s exactly that,” Stepien said.
Mail-in voting was also on the campaign manager’s mind but his stance wasn’t as critical as the president’s. He believes that in states where mail-in voting has previously occurred there shouldn’t be a problem. Instead, he’s worried about states that have never mailed ballots to voters before trying something new so close to the election. He questioned if it was possible for states to put the necessary infrastructure in place to handle the number of mail-in ballots.
“I think our concern in the campaign is when 80 days, 90 days out from Election Day, you have Democrat governors changing the rules,” he said. “That’s a scary proposition. “They simply don’t have the bandwidth to be accepting millions upon millions of ballots.”
Stepien also plugged his campaign’s surrogate operation saying that the Trump organization has a far more aggressive grassroots game. He says that compared to the Biden campaign, the Trump team as hundreds of surrogates crisscrossing the country campaigning on behalf of the president.
