Police charge 17-year-old in Kenosha shootings, Twitter worries about civil war
Police in Wisconsin charged a 17-year-old from Antioch, Illinois on Wednesday in connection with the shooting of three and the deaths of two protesters from the night before during riots in Kenosha.
“Wisconsin authorities issued an arrest warrant charging Kyle Rittenhouse with first-degree intentional homicide, Antioch Police said. He is in the custody of the Lake County Judicial System pending an extradition hearing to transfer him from Illinois to Wisconsin. Antioch is located about 15 to 20 miles from Kenosha, just across the state border,” says CNN.
Video from the scene the night before showed a group of protesters chasing a man, who appears to be Rittenhouse, down a street in Kenosha, before sending him to the ground and hitting him with a skateboard and kicking him.
The man then turns and shoots several times. One man was shot in the head, one in the stomach and another in the arm. The victims shot in the head and stomach both died.
Photos circulated on the internet purport to show at least one man amongst the protesters was armed with a handgun.
While the media is rushing to lynch Rittenhouse without a trial, at least one conservative has taken a strong stand for the youth, condemning authorities for not enforcing law and order.
“Kenosha devolved into anarchy because the authorities abandoned the people. Those in charge, from the governor on down, refused to enforce the law. They’ve stood back and watched Kenosha burn. Are we really surprised that looting and arson accelerated to murder?” said Tucker Carlson about the shootings.
Rittenhouse was with a group of people who say they were protecting private property. Kenosha has been the scene of widespread private and public property damage including the deliberate arson of Black-owned businesses, since the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man.
“How shocked are we that 17-year-olds with rifles decided they had to maintain order when no one else would?” Carlson said.
Carlson also said he felt confident that the courts would be able to sort out whether what Rittenhouse is being charged with was justifiable under the circumstances or not.
Liberals went crazy accusing Carlson of inciting violence and conveniently ignoring the violence that progressives have been supporting throughout the U.S. in cities such as Minneapolis, Portland, Chicago, Louisville, New York, Washington, D.C. and St. Louis.
“I almost never get involved with hashtags focused on specific individuals, and don’t really go in for hashtags generally, but what Tucker Carlson is doing right now to incite mayhem and murder by roaming gangs of armed vigilantes absolutely requires Fox News to #FireTuckerCarlson,” said rabid liberal Seth Abramson.
The debate, and the violent tone that underlay the debate, is proof of a widening rift in America that has some conservatives openly worrying about a civil war that could result from politicians not enforcing law and order, and Americans taking the law into their own hands.
“Civil war is coming,” tweeted actor James Woods.
