Rand Paul, other lawmakers attacked after Trump White House speech
United States Sen. Rand Paul (R-TN) was attacked by a mob outside the White House on Thursday night as he walked with his wife down the street following President Trump’s closing convention speech
“Just got attacked by an angry mob of over 100, one block away from the White House. Thank you to @DCPoliceDept for literally saving our lives from a crazed mob,” Paul later tweeted.
Video from the scene appears to show Paul supporting a police officer after the officer was attacked by a man from the mob. A phalanx of police escort Paul and his wife down the street after the attack.
Much of the mob looked like it was posing as members of the press.
“Protesters [had] gathered in Lafayette Square and the Black Lives Matter plaza outside of the White House on Thursday night ahead of Trump’s speech where he formally accepted the GOP’s 2020 presidential nomination,” says The Hill.
Paul is no stranger to liberal attacks.
Previously, Paul had sustained injuries including five rib fractures, with three displaced fractures, when his next-door neighbor attacked him after years of despising Paul’s politics.
Video also shows mobs attacking guests departing the White House gate, while protesters hurl angry insults at police officers, including one Black protester calling one Black police officer an “Uncle Tom” for protecting the Republican senator.
Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL), a former combat engineer in the U.S. Army who lost two legs and one finger in Afghanistan under President Obama’s politically motivated “troop surge,” was seen being accosted by an angry mob as he walked down the street on prosthetic limbs. One militant white protester continued to ask him how he felt how about “Black people getting murdered by police.”
Mast answered it was wrong to deny anyone “due process” whereupon the crowd groaned and catcalled, expecting Mast to only denounce “Black people murdered by police.”
“Anybody murdered is wrong,” Mast added.
Protesters outside the White House constructed a guillotine near the fence and threatened one member of the press that they’d beat him and take his camera if he stayed and took video.
