Sarah Huckabee Sanders: ‘I don’t care what Bob Woodward has to say’
Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended her former boss on Fox News Thursday against new claims made by journalist Bob Woodward.
“I don’t care what Bob Woodward has to say,” Huckabee said. “He is another liberal media mogul out there trying to take the president down.”
Woodward’s new book “Rage” goes on sale soon and features interviews with President Trump that are garnering plenty of media attention after the Washington Post published audio excerpts. In some clips, the president is said to be withholding the severity of the coronavirus pandemic from Americans.
Huckabee Sanders says she knows the president well and disputes Woodward’s claims.
“I don’t have to read his book because I spent two-and-a-half years serving alongside this president,” she said. “I know who he is, I know that he loves his country, and I know that he is constantly fighting for the country and the people to defeat the liberal mob that is out to destroy us.”
Democrats have been attacking Trump over the interviews with some like progressive Congresswoman Ilmar Omar (D) even calling for his resignation.
“Don’t let this stay yesterday’s news: Over and over again, Donald Trump downplayed the threat of COVID-19 — all while knowing how dangerous it was. Almost 200,000 people have paid the price for his lies with their lives. If he refuses to resign, we will vote him out,” Omar tweeted.
Trump said his comments were being taken out of context and used against him claiming if what he said to Woodward about the coronavirus was really that bad, Woodward would have leaked the audiotapes much sooner.
“Bob Woodward had my quotes for many months. If he thought they were so bad or dangerous, why didn’t he immediately report them in an effort to save lives? Didn’t he have an obligation to do so? No, because he knew they were good and proper answers. Calm, no panic,” the president tweeted.
Huckabee Sanders says that Trump was working to protect America from the virus while Democrats were too busy focusing on impeachment.
“I wanted to write my book ‘Speaking For Myself’, because I wanted people to know the real story and see the real truth behind who Donald Trump is and how much he loves this country and all of the things that he is doing to keep our country great and move us forward,” she said.
