Trump on Michigan Governor Whitmer: ‘She doesn’t have a clue’
President Donald Trump came out swinging at a campaign rally against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer after the liberal governor accused the president of being the biggest threat to America.
“She doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the coronavirus and the economy,” Trump said. “Open up your state, Madam Governor, open up your state!”
During the governor’s press briefing prior to the president’s rally, Whitmer attacked Trump when asked about recent recordings that surfaced of the president talking to reporter Bob Woodward.
“I think the biggest enemy of the state right now is the misinformation that’s coming out of the Head of the State,” she said. “I think the biggest threat to the American people is the American president right now.”
Trump dismissed Whitmer’s comments and said Michigan would be better off with a governor that knew what they were doing.
“Michigan has already gained and regained more than half of the jobs that it lost and if your state was ever allowed to safely reopen by your governor, who doesn’t have a clue, just like Joe, you would have gained far more than that,” Trump said.
Trump called Whitmer a liberal hypocrite who lives by a different set of rules. He was referring to when the governor’s husband attempted to get their boat ready for Memorial Day despite a stay at home order imposed by Whitmer. When a dock employee declined, the first spouse tried to use his wife’s position to his advantage.
Whitmer again showed her double standards by calling Trump’s campaign rally in her state “distressing” because his supporters likely wouldn’t be wearing masks. One day earlier, she praised and welcomed Democratic nominee Joe Biden who was also campaigning in Michigan.
The governor, who was once thought to be a rising star in the Democratic Party, has made an unflattering name for herself for her handling of the coronavirus pandemic. She has imposed some of the most restrictive measures in the country much to the detriment of Michigan’s economy.
Trump is hoping to keep Michigan red after winning the state back in 2016. Critics had laughed at the amount of time he was spending in the blue-collar state but the president got the last laugh when scored the victory on election night.
