Trump says Iran will come to table if he wins reelection
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump said that the Iranian regime will have no choice but to come to the table with the U.S. if he wins reelection. He said that Iran is simply holding out hoping that Democratic Nominee Joe Biden wins the election instead.
“Iran is suffering, unfortunately, I don’t want them to suffer, but their economy is tanked,” Trump said. “They have a minus 27 GDP, no one’s ever heard of a number like that…and I think they want to make a deal but they’d rather deal with Sleepy Joe Biden than me.”
Trump spoke from the White House prior to signing peace agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
“We’ll see what happens with Iran, I’d say right after the election, within a period of a week, maybe a month, but within a very short period, literally a very short time, you’ll have Iran coming back and saying let’s get this whole thing worked out,” he said.
On Monday, Trump issued a strong warning to Iran amongst rumors that the regime was planning an assassination attempt on a U.S. Ambassador or another attack against the U.S. in retaliation for the airstrike that killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani earlier this year.
“Any attack by Iran, in any form, against the United States will be met with an attack on Iran that will be 1,000 times greater in magnitude,” he tweeted.
The president and his administration have taken a tough approach on Iran by withdrawing from the Obama Iran deal and imposing sanctions on Tehran. Trump said his strategy was working and Iran would soon come to the table. He also warned of danger if Biden were to win.
“And it’ll be a really good deal for the United States. Because they have no choice,” he said. “But if Biden got in, they’ll just take it. They’ll take our guts out.”
The former vice president disagreed with Trump’s approach with Iran and fired back on social media.
“The fact is, Iran is closer to a nuclear bomb today than it was when Donald Trump took office. Every day he’s in charge of our national security is another day our enemies are emboldened and the American people are at risk,” Biden tweeted.
Trump also said that he believes at least five other countries will soon be signing agreements normalizing relations with Israel.
“But you’re going to see, you’re going to see a lot of very great activity. It’s going to be peace in the Middle East,” he said.
