USA Today poll: 64 percent of Americans say cities ‘under siege’ from protests

A new survey of Americans confirms what the Democrats don’t want to admit: American cities are under siege by violent protests.

“Roughly two-thirds (64%) of those surveyed say they believe protesters and counter-protesters are overwhelming American cities, according to a USA TODAY/Ipsos poll. That majority shows stark partisan divisions that echo the messages coming from Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden: Significantly more Republicans than Democrats say cities are under siege, 83% to 48%, respectively,” reports USA Today.

The results buttress the findings of the Trump administration that local authorities should be doing more to stop violent protests in their own cities, or at least allow the federal government to intervene to restore order.

The poll says that 56 percent of Americans think that more police should be used to enforce order and restore peace in cities, with 54 percent of people saying that they should arm themselves to protect private property during protests.

“I think Portland is under siege because of all of the Black Lives Matter movement,” says Michelle Brown, who plans to vote for Trump according to USA Today. “They want to just cause strife. They don’t care about the life, they just want to cause breakdown in the United States as a whole.”

Yesterday the Department of Justice declared Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and New York City as anarchy zones where local authorities have done little to stop radical violence from protesters. The administration is considering whether or not they can pull federal funding from the cities as a goad to get them to enforce the laws against rioting and looting.

“Six in 10 Americans say the mainstream media has made the protests more dangerous,” says USA Today, “followed by the Black Lives Matter movement at 59% and Trump at 54%. A majority of Americans say Antifa (53%), conservative militias (52%) and conservative media (51%) contribute to protests becoming more dangerous.”

Despite the results of the survey, USA Today still says that protests are peaceful.

“Violence and looting have broken out at several protests,” the newspaper noted, “though the movement is staying largely peaceful.”

Attorney General Bill Barr disagrees, saying that stern measures are warranted against protesters who have often expressed the desire for the violent overthrow of the local, state and federal governments under the socialist Antifa umbrella.

“No question, Antifa is a movement,” Mr. Barr said in an NBC News interview this month, the Post noted. “They have websites. They are organized…Anyone who has spent a moment at these things and heard their chants and what they’re calling for can see right away that they are, they say they are, revolutionaries, that this is a revolution.”

When asked by Democrats about the threat Antifa poses from the left, FBI Director Christopher Wray said that he wasn’t worried about the ideology, but about the safety of Americans.

“We don’t really think of threats in terms of left or right at the FBI. We are focused on the violence, not the ideology,” Wray also repeatedly said according to the Hill.
