Liberals immediately call for Amy Coney Barrett’s impeachment over refusal to recuse herself
Now that Amy Coney Barrett has been confirmed and installed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court with surprisingly little opposition from the Democrats, liberals are engaging in the tiresome, if predicable, anti-democratic tactic of calling for Barrett’s impeachment to smooth the way for Joe Biden to add liberals to the court if he’s elected.
“Norman Ornstein, a political science scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and Alexander Heffner, a PBS host, argued Justice Barrett should be ‘impeached promptly’ if she doesn’t recuse herself from weighing in on an election challenge out of Pennsylvania,” says the Washington Examiner.
“She won’t be convicted off the Court. But this lays the groundwork for adding a 10th justice as first balancing act of Biden and new Congress,” Mr. Heffner tweeted.
In The @Independent, I endorse @NormOrnstein. If she refuses to recuse & suppresses PA votes, Barrett should be impeached promptly. She won’t be convicted off the Court. But this lays the groundwork for adding a 10th justice as first balancing act of Biden and new Congress. https://t.co/UouA4g97sn

Heffner claims that any ruling favorable to Trump during the election would amount to that tiresome, if predicable, anti-democratic claim of a “quid pro quo”, which would be funny if the charges against Joe Biden peddling influence with the Chinese Communist Party weren’t so serious.
Heffner said that Democrats refused to fight over the nomination, saying there was no impassioned opposition from the left to Barrett’s nomination.
“Instead,” says Heffner, “there was an infamous hug from the Democrats’ Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee, Dianne Feinstein. And there was something more alarming. The refusal of the Democrats to fight a political battle—too afraid of muddying the integrity of their pro-Biden and anti-Trump argument—was a stunning abdication of leadership.”
He’s apparently upset because Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) hugged Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) and wants to impeach Associate Justice Amy Barrett (Supreme Court) for the malfeasance.
Sure, they couldn’t be bothered to investigate Hunter’s laptop porno, but they want to impeach Barrett over someone else’s hug?
These people are crazy.
Ornstein’s call for impeachment is the latest unhinged response to Barrett nomination and further decouples our national debate from any sense rationality and restraint. https://t.co/j3nPWAoJCr

The Luzerne County Board of Elections in Pennsylvania has asked Barrett to recuse herself from a case that is scheduled before the court having to do with mail-in ballot extensions that is stalemated, with the state’s Supreme Court unable to decide the issue.
“The nomination and confirmation of a Supreme Court justice this close to a presidential election is unprecedented,” they wrote according to the Hill. “As concerning as that is, what is even more troubling is the language President Trump has used in consideration of this nomination, linking it directly to the electoral season at hand, with implications for his own re-election.”
The time to have made that argument was during the confirmation process, not afterward.
If anyone actually thought that Barrett would decide on anything other than her judicial philosophy, the time to talk about that has passed. She’s a Supreme Court Justice. Let her do her job.
There will be lots of things, no doubt, that will subject Barrett to the tiresome, if predicable, anti-democratic claims of quid pro quo if she follows her instincts.
This is just one more.
Liberals should learn to hug it out, give it up and move on.
