CNN anchor flaunts $380 ‘facts first’ cashmere sweater after network avoided Hunter Biden story

CNN anchor Kate Bolduan garnered attention from all sides on Thursday when she donned an ill-timed fashion statement promoting her network’s Trump-era mantra which caused a social media stir. The catchphrase is a slam against Trump and his surrogates for allegedly reporting “fake news.” She was wearing a $380 cashmere sweater with the phrase “facts first” embroidered in pink cursive font. The political message was mocked because CNN spiked the Hunter Biden story during the 2020 presidential election.

“Facts first” is the promo logo for CNN. The sweater was created by the high-end fashion line Lingua Franca. According to Lingua Franca’s website, $100 of each purchase will be donated to the Committee to Protect Journalists. They brand themselves as part of the fashion resistance.

Bolduan, who anchors the 9 a.m. eastern hour of “CNN Newsroom” (previously known as “@This Hour”), wore the gray sweater with pink script lettering, and fans were quick to praise her fashion choice.

HuffPost declared the sweater a ‘bold fashion statement’ where ‘facts first’ are declared.

The product description on Lingua Franca’s website reads:

Facts are facts.
They aren’t colored by emotion or bias.
They are indisputable.
There is no alternative to a fact.
Facts explain things.
What they are, how they happened.
Facts are not interpretations.
Once facts are established, opinions can be formed.
And while opinions matter, they don’t change facts.
We stand with our friends at CNN who start with the facts first.”

But that sentiment is countered by facts to the contrary. Days before Hunter Biden revealed he was the subject of a federal investigation over his “tax affairs,” Project Veritas leaked conference call recordings revealing that CNN executives nixed any follow-ups to the explosive New York Post report that detailed the younger Biden’s sketchy foreign business dealings in the final weeks of the presidential election campaign.

“Obviously, we’re not going with the New York Post story right now on Hunter Biden,” CNN Political Director David Chalian put forth during a conference call on Oct. 14, the same day the Post published its first story on Hunter Biden’s emails. Chalian would later go on to insist that the report was “giving its marching orders” to the “right-wing echo chamber about what to talk about today.”

“The Trump media, you know, moves immediately from — OK, well, never mind — the [Michael Flynn] unmasking was, you know, found to be completely nonsensical to the latest alleged scandal and expects everybody to just follow suit,” CNN President Jeff Zucker told his staff on Oct. 16. “So, I don’t think that we should be repeating unsubstantiated smears just because the right-wing media suggests that we should.”

CNN was one of the media outlets at the forefront of pushing the Russia collusion conspiracy. Their reporting is allegedly left-leaning and almost exclusively supports Democrats while avoiding portraying them in a negative light. Their fact-based programming has long been a topic of derision.

For example, earlier this year, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo staged his own reemergence from a basement quarantine during his recovery from the coronavirus. The New York Post reported that just days earlier, Cuomo got into a tense confrontation with a cyclist who then called out Cuomo after spotting him outside without a mask in the Hamptons.

In October, CNN analyst Miles Taylor admitted he lied to Anderson Cooper back in August when he denied that he was the anonymous Trump administration official who wrote an infamous New York Times op-ed trashing the president.

Social media pundits roundly mocked the sweater.

“We completely blew another important story, but here’s a 380 dollar sweater for you to virtue signal with!” National Review senior writer David Harsanyi snarked.

“Imagine posing as a news company while promoting sweaters that cost $380.00 and being like ‘Pretty cool huh!'” conservative commentator Stephen Miller tweeted.

“As you struggle due to Democrat shutdowns that CNN backs, they’re promoting a [$380] sweater with advice that their own network refuses to follow,” radio host Jason Rantz said, taking a swing at liberal pandemic lockdowns.

CNN began reporting on the Hunter Biden scandal via Jake Tapper on Wednesday after the Biden transition team issued a press release acknowledging the younger Biden’s legal troubles.

“This story broke in October. You didn’t do it then,” accused Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell, who then asked Tapper bluntly: “Were you instructed to ignore it until after the election?”

But it was a vastly different story before the election with a number of CNN talking heads coming to the defense of the Bidens. Many of them warned that it had the “earmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign.”

In October, CNN anchor Jake Tapper claimed that the allegations against Joe Biden’s son were “too disgusting” to repeat on air and that the “right-wing is going crazy.”
