During on-air spat, Behar cruelly claims she didn’t miss co-host McCain during maternity leave

It remains baffling how, as The New York Times once offered, that ABC’s “The View” is seen as an important cog in America’s political journalism machine.

Surely, it’s not because of host Joy Behar’s rosy demeanor and magnetic personality – neither of which were on display on Tuesday.

Behar delivered a gut-punch to co-host and new mom Meghan McCain, the late Sen. John McCain’s daughter, following a testy exchange over whether Republicans are more embroiled in chaos now than Democrats.

The panel was involved in a discussion of whether America needs more than two parties. Obviously, Whoopi Goldberg, who raised the issue, meant more than two major parties, because there is a debate as to whether Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen took votes from President Donald Trump in some key states.

Blowhard Behar, an unapologetic left-winger, was not shy in saying the GOP was worse off.

“Let the Republicans fight amongst themselves,” she said. “On the one hand, you have the Republicans, on the other you have the seditionists. That’s the fight that’s going on in the Republican Party right now. In the Democratic Party, you have the progressives versus the moderates, which is, you know, de rigueur, as they say, it’s what it always is. It’s typical politics. The Republican Party is in much more trouble right now.”

McCain countered that Democrats also had problems.

“Are you kidding me?!” said McCain, adding after Behar tried to interrupt, “It’s just, that’s completely inaccurate. You have AOC fighting right now about whether or not she’s going to end up primary-ing (Senate Minority Leader) Chuck Schumer. Coming out, not saying she has the full support of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. You have the squad that’s coming out very intensely, very angry that Biden hasn’t filled out his Cabinet with more progressives. Bernie Sanders also coming out saying he’s angry. The idea that there isn’t fighting within the Democratic party as well … ”

When Behar again tried to interrupt, McCain playfully answered, “You missed me so much, Joy! You missed me so much when I was on maternity leave! You missed fighting with me.”

“I did not,” Behar replied. “I did not miss you. Zero.”

McCain seemed taken aback.

“Oh my God!” she said. “You know what, that’s so nasty! That’s so nasty! I was teasing because you said something rude. Like, really?”

To which, Whoopi sought to make peace. “This is not the way to do it,” she said.

McCain had just returned to the panel after maternity leave.

In September McCain and husband Ben Domenech, publisher of the conservative website The Federalist, welcomed a new baby girl, Liberty Sage McCain Domenech.

In 2019, shortly after her renowned father passed away, McCain suffered a miscarriage, which she described as a “horrendous experience” in discussing it in a moving op-ed for The New York Times.

In that article she noted that she initially blamed herself for the miscarriage, because she was a “professional woman, working in a high-pressure, high-visibility, high-stress field, still bearing the burden of the recent loss of my father and facing on top of that the arrows that come with public life.”

With many of those arrows, by the way, shot by Behar.
