Only in Biden’s America: Fight racism by appointing people who promote racism

We already know that President-elect Joe Biden intends to heal us, unify us, make us better people, goshdarnit – whether we want to or not.

One example of this: Biden promised recently that he would rush aid to small business owners, especially those who are Black, Latino, Asian, Native American, or women. Hmm, seems some folks are missing, Joe, but just can’t put a finger on it.

Well, along these lines, Biden seems to be applying the “fight fire with fire” approach to governing. Kristen Clarke, his pick to run the civil rights division within the Justice Department, is an example. How better to fight racism and hate by naming some who floats crackpot racist theories and sows hatred.

Fox News’s Tucker Carlson pointed this out Monday night.

In 1994, for instance, Clarke, as head of the Black Studies Association at Harvard, wrote a letter to the school newspaper to “assist” it in covering racial issues. In the letter she wanted to school the Harvard Crimson on genetic differences between Blacks and Whites, Carlson noted.

It seems, according to Clarke, that the core of the human brain is “Black.” Hmm.

How so? Well, it’s awash in neuro-melanin, a chemical that not only controls the brain’s operation, according to Clarke, but also “gives Blacks their superior physical and mental abilities.” Continuing, Clarke opined that White brains cannot produce enough melanin because of near-impotent pineal glands, which govern the flow of some hormones. “This is the chemical basis for cultural differences between Blacks and Whites,” Clarke argued.

As one Twitter user responded to a post of Carlson’s broadcast:

“Melanin,” she concluded, “endows Blacks with greater mental, physical and spiritual abilities – something which cannot be measured based on Eurocentric standards.”

Who knew? Take that, Richard Spencer.

There’s a bigger question for Biden, though: Was Louis Farrakhan unavailable to run the Office of Civil Rights? How about the Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Malik Shabazz?

Carlson went on to point out that Clarke invited to Harvard a known anti-Semite, Wellesley professor Tony Martin, who accused Jews of running the African slave trade in America’s early years and later was a featured speaker at Holocaust denial groups. Clarke once fawningly referred to Martin as an “intelligent, well-versed Black intellectual” who roots his work in “indisputable fact,” Carlson noted. Of course,  “blame the Jews” is the basis for all rigorous intellectual work.

More recently, in the Trump era, Clarke has defended affirmative action programs at colleges.

The Trump administration, in the name of outdated notions of fairness and justice, had directed schools to abandon policies of allowing the race of applicants to influence admission policies. After Harvard successfully defended its discrimination policy in court, Clarke, in her capacity as president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, praised the decision. “Race-conscious admissions allows Harvard – and colleges across the country – to cultivate diverse campus environments that move our country forward: bridging racial divides and instilling greater cross-cultural understanding among a talented student body of future leaders.” The decision, she added, “appropriately acknowledges that our institutions cannot be colorblind in a world full of color.”

Of course, one Twitter user raised an interesting point:

Yes, nothing builds bridges and relieves resentment like a university telling members of one racial group that members of another group with inferior academic credentials will be admitted instead of them solely because the school simply needs more people who look like them on campus.

With thinking like that, Clarke is perfect for the Biden administration.

“In a sane country,” Carlson concluded, “someone like Kristen Clarke would be under investigation by the civil rights division, not running it.”

Welcome to Biden’s America.
