‘Disgusting’: Tapper gets roasted for questioning disabled veteran’s patriotism for opposing impeachment

Just when you think CNN’s anchor Jake Tapper can’t go any lower, he outdoes himself. This time he viciously attacked Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), an Army veteran and double amputee, and got roasted for it on social media. Tapper basically accused him of being unpatriotic for opposing the second impeachment of President Trump. For that disgusting display of political bias, CNN has rewarded him by extending Tapper’s slot to two hours.

GOP lawmakers in the House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted against Trump’s second impeachment concerning his conduct surrounding the riot on Capitol Hill. Well, most of them did… ten Republicans decided to stab Trump in the back and support the Democrats’ resolution of impeachment. Perhaps they would be more at home moving to the other side of the political aisle permanently.

Tapper has been on a tear for some time now bashing Trump whenever he gets a chance to boost his ratings. He slammed Republicans who didn’t back impeachment, suggesting they belong to the “QAnon caucus.” Most Republicans don’t even know what QAnon is about, but that was a convenient smear to disparage those who still support President Trump.

While the House was debating impeaching Trump, Mast asked if “any one of those individuals who brought violence on this Capitol [had] been brought here to answer whether they did that because of our president?”

According to the New York Post, 27 seconds of awkward silence followed as Mast, donning a face mask, stared ahead. After the prolonged period of silence, he said, “It appears I will receive no answer.”

That prompted Tapper to tear into Mast. Brian lost both legs in 2010 after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan – not a good look for CNN, but I doubt they care at this point. Mast passionately argued against impeaching Trump. At the same time, Tapper invoked the Republican’s military service and then questioned his patriotism. Beyond shameful.

“Congressman Brian Mast, a Republican from Florida — who lost his legs, by the way, fighting for democracy abroad, although I don’t know … about his commitment to it here in the United States,” Tapper told a panel before rebutting Mast’s comments.

Tapper has espoused support for troops and veterans, but this lays bare how he really feels about them. He only respects those that are liberal evidently. That set social media on fire and he was torched for his comments. Critics demanded that he apologize. I would not hold my breath.

In fact, this is how Tapper doubled down in his reply to Massie on Twitter:

Massie: “I lost two legs for @jaketapper’s right to say whatever the hell he wants, but that free speech also protects the Republicans he is so eager to condemn for asking Constitutional questions about the election.”

Tapper: “You’re a hero for your service and I’m grateful, as I’ve said before. And yes I question the commitment to democracy of anyone who spread election lies, signed onto that deranged TX AG lawsuit, and voted to commit sedition. You were not just asking questions.”

The backlash on Twitter was crushing.

“Representative Mast, along with myself and many others in Congress and across the country, served in the military so Americans can have freedom of speech, regardless of how repulsive or disgusting it may be,” replied Rep. Rick Crawford, (R-AR) who is also a veteran.

“Tapper comments are so wrong in so many ways,” former Trump White House aide Mercedes Schlapp wrote.

“This might be the most vile thing ever said on cable news,” “The Rubin Report” host Dave Rubin tweeted. “Tapper was CNN’s last hope and he turned out to be the absolute worst.”

“So @jaketapper has written so many books-pandered enough on Twitter about other people’s heroic service he truly believes he has some assumed moral authority on it. What a disgusting thing to say about @BrianMastFL thankfully those of us who’ve done something can laugh it off,” said Fox Nation host Joey Jones, also a double-amputee veteran.

“This is the equivalent of rage-tweeting something gross and maybe deleting it except he did it live on CNN,” Tablet Magazine associate editor Noam Blum stated.

“This is DISGUSTING,” former Trump campaign social media director Mike Hahn reacted. “Is @jaketapper planning on apologizing for this egregious comment? Does @CNNPR have comment?”

The lack of respect shown by Tapper here is simply stunning but totally unsurprising. He was on a roll gleefully covering the historic second impeachment of President Trump which has no legal basis and which constitutional expert Jonathan Turley says can be legally contested on its merits. It’s all political theater to discredit a Republican president who is loved and respected by millions of Americans and who was incredibly effective despite being blocked at every turn not only by Democrats but by his own party.

Tapper, who is nothing more than a craven opportunist, is in-your-face when it comes to attacking a disabled veteran. But when it comes to exposing allegedly corrupt Biden business ventures and ties with China, he’s suddenly mute. Because, after all, this is CNN.
