Swalwell claims Trump ‘radicalized’ followers the same way Bin Laden did: ‘He was responsible’

Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell, recently embroiled in a honey trap incident with a Chinese spy, is still on the House Intelligence Committee. In fact, he is serving as an impeachment manager during President Trump’s impeachment proceedings. Demonstrating just how biased you can get, he outrageously compared Trump to Usama bin Laden in an interview Tuesday. That’s right… he’s calling the president a terrorist. These people really need some new material.

Swalwell deigned to go there after he was asked about President Trump’s culpability for the Capitol siege last Wednesday. Deflecting from his Chinese liaisons, Swalwell stated that Trump had radicalized his followers the same way Bin Laden did.

PBS anchor Judy Woodruff said, “Another argument the Republicans are making is that yes, the people who stormed the Capitol, they should be held accountable, but President Trump himself wasn’t part of the mob. They keep citing one of the words he used in his speech to the crowd last Wednesday. They said he used the word peaceful. He wanted them to be peaceful, among many other words he spoke. They’re saying holding him accountable is different from the people who were directly involved in tearing down the doors and rampaging the Capitol building.”

Swalwell said, “Well, Osama bin Laden did not enter U.S. soil on September 11, but it was widely acknowledged he was responsible for inspiring the attack on our country. The president, with his words, using the words ‘Fight,’ with the speakers that he assembled that day, who called for ‘trial by combat’ and said we have to ‘take names and kick ass,’ that is hate speech that inspired and radicalized people to storm the Capitol. When you read the indictments from the U.S. Attorney’s office of people who have been arrested, in their FBI interviews, they cite that they were called there by the president. They were there in the Capitol because the president told them to do so. We must hold the president accountable for his inciting words.”

How ridiculous. So, if the president or Americans, in general, take a non-violent stand at all against the government it’s terrorism now. It doesn’t matter whether it is a speech, social media, or a protest… all are guilty, should be hunted down and persecuted or prosecuted. How very Stalinesque. Evidently, words now betray your guilt. Orwellian doesn’t begin to cover it.

Swalwell claimed that many of the people arrested in connection with the rioting stated that they had been “called there by the president.” Those people saying that are not quite right in the head by many accounts. Should we hold Democrats responsible for every crackpot who gets their violence on because of their rhetoric, no matter how mundane the language? That will never happen and many would argue they are guilty of the incitement they accuse Trump of.

NewsHour host Woodruff immediately followed up by asking, “Are you comparing President Trump to Usama bin Laden?”

“I’m comparing the words of a[n] individual who would incite and radicalize somebody, as Usama bin Laden did, to what President Trump did,” Swalwell replied. “You don’t actually have to commit the violence yourself, but if you call others to violence, that itself is a crime.” Except that only happened in the fevered imaginings of those on the left.

Swalwell referred to a number of pro-Trump Republicans in Congress as the “Coup Klux Klan” and accused GOP lawmakers of condoning “terrorists” in response to them voicing election fraud concerns.

But when it comes to his ties to suspected Chinese spy Fang Fang, Swalwell suddenly loses his voice. He is ignoring questions from the media and calls by fellow lawmakers to step down from his role on the Intel Committee in the wake of the security lapse. Why should he step down? Swalwell considers himself one of the ruling elite anointed by Nancy Pelosi and he’s not wrong.
