Wild video shows arrest of totally nude, machete-armed FL man who tried to steal clothes from surveyor

Florida police arrested a man who, while naked and armed with a machete, tried to rob another man of his clothing with the aftermath of the bizarre incident being captured on video and posted to social media where it has gone viral.

It was a normal sunny summer morning in DeLand, a city that lies between the prime tourist destinations of Orlando and Daytona Beach when a surveyor crossed paths with the totally nude man who was allegedly picking berries in the woods when he rushed out of the bushes, brandishing a machete-style knife and demanded the clothes, wallet and phone of the stunned worker, according to QFox13.

The surveyor was complying with the demands of his assailant when the man suddenly threw the machete along with a handful of berries at him. Fortunately, the weapon bounced off of his chest and he was spared from injury.

Then the man, who has been identified as 34-year-old Brandon Wright – a convicted felon – fled back into the brush where he allegedly got into a white Dodge Challenger and took off. A responding deputy “recognized the circumstances and suspect description were similar to an August 2021 call involving Brandon Wright running around naked in the same area,” according to a Facebook post by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, which also posted a video of the arrest.

The suspect’s car was picked up by a license plate reader and it was soon reported that a nude man was outside of a DeLand gas station and food store at 899 S. Spring Garden Ave. Footage from a police helicopter shows the still-naked Wright wandering around, confronting motorists in the street, and doing pushups in front of the establishment.

“He’s doing pushups at the entrance of the food store here,” a deputy is heard saying on the video.

After retrieving what appears to be a pair of sunglasses from the ground, Wright walks back to the gas pumps and lays down on the concrete, officers are seen approaching him and taking him into custody.

Facebook users weighed in on the Sheriff’s Office video, “At least the cops didn’t need to search him for hidden weapons🤣🤣🤣,” one wrote.

Another user wrote, “I pray that this man gets the help he needs obviously he’s on some kind of bad drug or mental illness this could be one of our own relatives you never know when things can hit home I’m praying for him.”

“Even with those recent past arrests he was out on the street. The surveyor is lucky he wasn’t seriously hurt,” another opined.

“Stop letting people like this out Courts. We need mental help places to lock up.. He’s going to kill people 1 day,” a user added.

One user indicated that she knew Wright, “This is so sad. I’ve known him since Middle school and just seen him a couple of weeks ago at the neighborhood Walmart and he seemed to be doing good for his self. He had just got a job. He needs to get some help. Always a nice guy in school from what I remember! Praying for him !!”

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Wright ” was charged with attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was in custody without bond as of this writing. His prior convictions include kidnapping/false imprisonment (2009), possession of cocaine (2013 and 2018), possession of a firearm/ammunition by a convicted felon and battery on a law enforcement officer (2018) and resisting an officer without violence (2021).”
