Mysterious high-end sex ring set up to trap US officials, experts say

Intelligence experts are claiming that a high-end sex ring that catered to politicians, defense contractors, and high-ranking government officials was a “honeypot” scheme.

Six brothels located in the suburbs of Boston and Washington, DC that supplied high-end call girls were allegedly put in place by a foreign nation and were used to ensnare officials. Spies acting the part of prostitutes use sex to extract information from clientele and then potentially use the encounters as blackmail to keep them on the hook in what is known in espionage as a “honeytrap” or a “honeypot” scheme.

The brothels were “allegedly masterminded by a 41-year-old South Korean woman,” according to the Daily Mail. Sex workers were flown in from Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

However, experts do not know exactly which country is behind the scheme. They are looking at China, Israel, Korea, or Russia as possibilities.

“Having the Koreans out front could have been a false flag to give China or another country plausible deniability if the plot unraveled,” a former CIA senior operations officer told the Daily Mail in an interview.

“Han Lee, the alleged mastermind, Junmyung Lee, 30, and James Lee, 68 – all South Korean-born U.S. nationals – were charged in November with running the sex ring. The three Lees are not related,” the outlet reported.

Han and Junmyung Lee live in the Boston area. James Lee is from a suburb of Los Angeles.

A raid of the brothels took place in November. In Massachusetts alone, 28 people could face charges according to prosecutors. None of the people involved have been identified yet. Prosecutors plan to seek criminal charges in the case.

The investigation into “their involvement in prostitution is active and ongoing,” Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Zachary Mitlitsky stated in a court affidavit.

Joshua Levy, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the state, vowed to seek “accountability for the buyers who fuel the commercial sex industry,” according to the Daily Mail.

Having four of the brothels in Boston makes sense since two of the ring leaders came from there. However, experts cannot come up with any other reason to have one in DC other than to entrap the powerful.

Not only were politicians, defense contractors with security clearances, and high-ranking government officials involved, but the clientele also included corporate executives, professors, lawyers, and scientists. Investigators believe the ring pulled in over $1 million before it was taken down. Sex workers were charging $600+ an hour for their services.

“In the affidavit, investigators identified six ‘target locations’ where the brothels were based, four in the Boston area and two in Virginia,” the Daily Mail noted.

“Two of the brothels operated from units in luxury apartment buildings in the Virginia suburbs outside the capital, which are each about a 15-minute drive from the White House, Congress, Pentagon, and CIA,” the outlet added.

A high-end call girl service would get quite a bit of traffic in DC and many of their clientele keep government secrets according to a former spy who spoke with the Daily Mail.

Former CIA Special Agent Nic McKinley, who now heads up Deliver Fund, a nonprofit that works with law enforcement to combat human trafficking, agrees with that assessment.

“If this had been a pure cash play, massage parlors are easier to set up, have lower overhead costs, and print money,” he pointed out. “But they wouldn’t have pulled in affluent customers from government and national security circles.”

There are many ways a spy can entrap an asset. Stress, infidelity, greed, and feeling underappreciated in a position make them prime targets to be exploited. Intelligence agencies love using honeypot traps because they are extremely effective.

The clientele of these brothels had to apply by providing government-issued ID, phone and email contacts, employer information, and credit card records, according to court records. Political, military, and business officials gladly did so. They also then had sex in an apartment that no doubt was bugged and set up with equipment to record video and audio footage.

“Finding idiots like this would be pure gold for an intelligence service running a honeypot,” a retired foreign spy told the Daily Mail.

“This is at the level of a Nigerian prince scam,” a shocked retired CIA senior operations officer told the media outlet.

“The goal is to create a chain reaction,” he explained. “Draw people from your narrow group of targets, provide them with great service, and wait for them to invite friends and colleagues from the same circles.”
