Steve Doocy SCHOOLED for floating Nikki Haley fantasy

Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy fantasized on-air about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley running on a third-party ticket against former President Trump and got blasted for it.

The suggestion came on Tuesday morning and it was not well-received. The panel was discussing recent CNN polls which show that Trump has a substantial lead over President Biden in swing states. Doocy brought Haley up despite the fact that Trump has a massive 40+ point lead over his nearest rivals Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Haley.

“Given the fact that Trump is so far ahead on the Republican side for the primary, and given the poll we talked about yesterday where Nikki Haley actually trounces in a landslide, Joe Biden, by, what, 17 points?” Doocy asked.

“Wouldn’t it be interesting if Donald Trump becomes the nominee? Nikki Haley runs as a third party because then, you know, she — No Labels has said they want a Republican to be the presidential nominee — but can you imagine Nikki Haley versus Donald Trump and Joe Biden?” he asked his co-hosts.

“It would never happen,” co-host Lawrence Jones adamantly stated. “She’s a true Republican, and she would never go against the party.”

“If she wants to stop him,” Doocy posited. “You never know.”

A number of polls out there show that Haley would beat Biden significantly in a contest between the two but she stands no chance against Trump in the primary.

Meanwhile, as Haley jockeys for second place with DeSantis, Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire is reportedly getting ready to endorse her, according to Fox News.

“The endorsement of the popular governor of the state that holds the first primary and second overall contest in the Republican presidential nominating calendar is all but certain to occur when the two team up Tuesday evening at a Haley campaign event in Manchester, New Hampshire,” Fox News reported. “Sununu’s political team released a media advisory early Tuesday morning announcing that the governor would join Haley and make remarks at a town hall at 6 p.m. ET at the McIntyre Ski Area in Manchester.”

“I look forward to joining Nikki at her town hall this evening – it’s going to be a lot of fun!” Sununu said in a statement.

The New Hampshire governor is no fan of Trump and has been very critical of the former president.

“Nikki’s done a great job. She’s been really pounding the pavement in terms of going to various parts of the state, talking to folks, letting them ask her questions,” Sununu told reporters during an interview. “Her message seems to resonate.”

Haley has been climbing in the polls but still lags far behind Trump. She has surpassed DeSantis in New Hampshire and her home state of South Carolina to take second place in those states. She is also closing in on DeSantis in Iowa.

Sununu is vowing to get behind the candidate he endorses “110%.”

“That’s the fun part. Are you kidding? I’m not going to do an endorsement and sit on my hands. When I do an endorsement, it’s going to be a six-, seven-, eight-, nine-week push, whatever it is, to really make sure folks know where we are. I tend to not leave anything on the table,” he told Fox News.

Longtime New Hampshire-based Republican strategist Jim Merrill told Fox News that the endorsement was “a big deal.”

“There’s no endorsement in New Hampshire you’d rather have. And it’s clear he’s going to use it early and often to support Haley,” he asserted.

“Chris Sununu is the Shohei Otani of New Hampshire politics. He’s a remarkably gifted, best-in-class talent. He’s our state’s most successful and impactful Republican of his generation. So his endorsement of Nikki Haley makes this the best day of her campaign and gives her a heck of a clean-up hitter down the stretch,” Merrill contended.

Neil Levesque, who is the executive director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, also told Fox News in an interview that “It is always questionable whether endorsements matter but in this case, this is a game-changing endorsement.”

“This is why,” he added. “Sununu is one of the most talented communicators in politics. You combine that with his credibility and popularity in a state like New Hampshire and the fact that he’s going to basically go on the road and sell this to New Hampshire voters and make a persuasive argument for Nikki Haley, I think is going to move the needle.”

Haley has also won the endorsement of billionaire Koch Brothers’ Americans for Prosperity Action.
