Senator Tommy Tuberville (R – Ala.) has had a rough time of it lately.
It seems in recent days that the 69-year-old retired football coach is catching flack from all sides for remarks he made about “picking sides” in the Middle East, his continued “hold” on military promotions in the wake of an attack on Israel, his response to a former CIA director who called for his removal “from the human race,” and for falling down a flight of airplane steps after criticizing President Biden’s inability to remain on his feet.
Despite the rather serious implications of the first three actions, it is on his slip down the stairs that liberals are gleefully focusing.
On Saturday, following the savage surprise Hamas attack on Israel, Tuberville wrote, “The Iran-backed terrorist attacks on Israel are completely unacceptable.”
“Israel has every right to respond with force,” he stated. “The United States and Alabama stand firmly with Israel as they defend themselves against these barbaric terrorist attacks.”

Days later, Tuberville seemed to soften his stance.
“I’m hoping that cooler heads prevail, they don’t go into Palestine,” he told WBRC earlier this week of Israel’s response to the attack. “Hopefully they get the hostages back and people start cooperating.”
“But this has been really bad. Israel has the right to go because they came in and they did some terrible things in their country,” he continued. “But the problem is when you start picking sides in the Middle East, it could get really messy very quick.”
As Punchbowl News’s senior congressional reporter, Andrew Desiderio, noted, “This is inconsistent with GOP messaging on the issue.”

In a Wednesday memo, White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates blasted Tuberville’s remarks, noting that President Biden has vowed his complete support for Israel.
” [W]hen it comes to the horrific events in Israel, President Biden knows which side he’s on. Senator Tuberville should look in the mirror and then follow the President’s lead,” the memo read, according to The Hill.
Bates then tore into Tuberville’s ongoing hold on military promotions, begun in March in protest of the Pentagon’s policy of paying for female servicemembers to travel for out-of-state abortions after a number of states placed restrictions on the procedure.
“The terrorist atrocities in Israel are a stark reminder that America’s military must be ready for anything on a moment’s notice,” Bates said. “And the men and women who put their lives on the line for their country deserve the absence of self-inflicted attacks on their readiness from self-serving politicians, like Sen. Tuberville.”
Tuberville is “directly sabotaging the American military,” Bates alleged, adding that “Senator Tuberville’s selfish stunt is also providing a windfall to our adversaries in the world.”
Online, Tuberville was criticized by users on X.
“It has been messy for 100 years,” one user wrote of the Middle East. “This is not new but reflects that Tubberville [sic] has nothing to offer.”

A spokesperson for Tuberville hit back on his military hold.
“It’s no surprise Democrats want to change the subject,” the spokesperson told ABC News on Monday. “But it doesn’t change the fact that the hold is not affecting our readiness or the readiness of any other country.”
Meanwhile, Tuberville announced on Tuesday that his office has reported General Michael Hayden to the Capitol Police for his “disgusting” statement.
“This morning my office was made aware of a statement made by General Michael Hayden calling for a politically motivated assassination,” Tuberville said in a statement on X. “This statement is disgusting and it is repugnant to everything we believe in as Americans.”
“Should Tommy Tuberville be removed from his committee?” online influencer Nathalie Jacoby asked on X.
“How about the human race?” Hayden replied.

On Tuesday, Hayden doubled down on his comment.
“I was surprised to wake up this morning and discover that many MAGAnuts had lost their minds over my suggestion that ‘Coach’ Tuberville not be considered a member of the human race,” he wrote on X. “I stand by that view. I’m wishing you all a nice day even the intransigent Tommy Tuberville.”

Hayden “must have known that, by making such a statement, he was committing a serious crime,” Tuberville wrote.
“My office has reported this incident to the Capitol Police and I expect that they will once again do an excellent job protecting members of Congress and bringing criminals to justice,” he stated.
“If you truly cared about our country, you’d resign,” one self-described “Woke Democrat” responded.

But it was Tuberville’s fall down the aircraft steps that truly sent Democrats into a frenzy.
“Tommy Tuberville on Biden’s Europe trip: ‘I’m afraid he’s going to fall down every time I turn on television,'” recalled one X user. “Here’s Tommy ….”
